GOT an idea for a ‘themed’ pedestrian crossing? The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) wants to hear it.

Last month, the Observer reported both Windsor and Maidenhead could get a themed crossing each with a message or design to celebrate the their individual heritage, diverse communities, RBWM’s volunteers, charities, and unsung heroes.

The council has announced a consultation has been launched for residents to express their views about how this should look.

Councillor Gerry Clark (Conservative: Bisham and Cookham), lead member for highways and infrastructure, announced at a virtual Windsor Town Forum on July 22 RBWM will be looking into introducing themed pedestrian crossings in both towns.

Once completed, the possible ‘landmarks’ could boost tourism and the local economy of the town centres.

Cllr Clark said: “Many councils have installed pride crossings or painted thank you signs on their roads during the coronavirus pandemic. I want to find out what you want and how we can celebrate the uniqueness of the Royal Borough.

“The consultation runs until 12 September and I would encourage you to have your say.”

The results will be reviewed and collated, and proposals will be considered before any work starts. It is likely any work will take place next year.
