FC Bentons have reached the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup this season after a 2-1 win against Reading Irish.

Goals from Matt Andrews and Charlie Samuels earned victory for Bentons in the quarter-final tie at Langley Academy and set up a semi-final clash away at Purley.

Bentons manager Russell Windsor told the Observer: “I thought that we didn’t start the quickest and Reading were a well organised side that scored early on.

“We played our way into the game and dominated in the end. It was a matter of time before we scored and luckily we got the equaliser in the second half and the winner before full time.

“I thought our team played very well. Reading had a few chances and took their goal well, but we kept them at distance with more possession and chances “We played the better football and were deserved winners.”

Looking ahead to the semi-final away at Purley, Windsor said “It’s a shame that we’re away but we don’t fear anyone.

“We’ve won this competition twice and I should think Purley are more worried about us. Any team in the last four of a county cup has got to be a decent side and we will show them respect, but they’re possibly more worried about us.

“The Reading Sunday League is quite physical and teams lack a bit of discipline, but they’re well-organised. We can do both so will hope the pitch is not in bad condition so we can play a bit of football as well.”

Bentons return to action in Division One with a trip to Datchet Village in a top of the table clash this Sunday (10.30am).

Bentons are the current league leaders and Windsor said: “I think it will decide the league. If we win the game it will be over for Datchet but if they win we will be right up there.

Datchet watched us play on Sunday. I know Charlie Norcott (manager) and a lot of their lads very well and they've done well this year. It's always a good game against them.

"Datchet are in a good position and have done well, so it all depends on this game because no-one else can catch us. We've got three left after Sunday so this is a six-pointer.

"We know each other very well so it should be a good game and whoever wins will deserve to."
