SLOUGH have recorded a first win in 2016 after a 47-10 home victory against Hungerford on Saturday.

Head coach Darran Brown had admitted that The Greenies needed to put points on the board to avoid a relegation scrap later on in the season.

They went out to fend off the relegation blues and impressed in a seven-try win over their Berkshire rivals at Tamblyn Fields.

The BBO Premier fixture was effectively over as a contest by half-time as Slough led 33-0.

Robbie Morrison touched down twice, and Joe Sole, Ruairi O’Connor and debutant Cameron Ruddock also registered tries.

Liam Coffey Barratt successfully put his boot to four of the five conversions.

There was no rest-bite for Hungerford in the second period as The Greenies continued to pile on the points.

Ruddock doubled his own tally for the match before captain Max Miles bundled his way over the try line. Barratt added both conversions.

The home team’s defence began to slacken late on the game which allowed Hungerford to run in two tries though it was little more than consolation for the side from West Berks.

The win sees Slough move up to eighth place in the table with a seven point margin ahead of the relegation positions.

The Greenies are away to sixth-placed Chipping Norton this Saturday (2.30pm).

Maidenhead are now six away matches without a win in South West One East after a 23-8 defeat at Witney on Saturday.

Tom Finnie scored with a penalty but the visitors trailed 13-3 at the half-time interval.

In the second period, Finnie added an unconverted try but it was not enough and his team are now without a win on the road since November 7.

Maidenhead, now sixth in the table, host second bottom Reading on February 13.

Windsor will welcome bottom-of-the-table Swanage & Wareham to Home Park on the same day (2.15pm) following a 25-10 loss at Oxford Harlequins on Saturday.

In Southern Counties North, Drifters suffered a surprise 29-11 defeat at the hands of basement team Swindon College Old Boys.

Drifters are away to Aylesbury on February 13.

Phoenix and Farnham Royal both recorded big points-to-zero wins in the BBBO Championship.

League leaders Phoenix thrashed Oxford 75-0 at Institute Road and now lead the division by 12 points ahead of a top-of-the-table clash with Didcot on February 20.

Farnham Royal won 89-0 away at Berkshire Shire Hall and host Oxford on Saturday (2.30pm)
