Burnham Beeches attracts lots of visitors every year - both human and feathered.

These Mandarin ducks flew in recently and attracted the attention of the team that works there.

Andy Barnard, the City of London Corporation’s Superintendent at Burnham Beeches said: “Mandarin ducks breed in densely wooded areas near shallow lakes, marshes or ponds. They nest in cavities in trees close to water and our work conserving the ancient trees at Burnham Beeches – pollarding, clearing around the trees and creating light around them - has helped to maintain an ideal habitat for them."

The City of London Corporation protects and conserves 18 major green spaces in London and south east England – including two ancient woodlands - and over 200 smaller ones in the Square Mile alone. They include important wildlife habitats, sites of scientific interest and national nature reserves. They are protected from being built on by special legislation.

Burnham Beeches has proved one of the most popular sites outside London, frequently used by film makers who want an authentic ancient woodland background for their work. Even Harry Potter has worked his magic there.
