A big-name brand is set to leave Slough High Street next month after its proposed lease renewal has been declared "unsustainable".

WHSmith has a prime location in the town centre, boasting items from its Clearance Outlet and an in-store Post Office.

However, the High Street giant has confirmed it will be closing on Saturday, May 11.

A WHSmith spokesperson said: "It is no longer sustainable to continue to trade from this location and the decision has been taken to close the store as a result of the forthcoming lease expiry.

"We are disappointed to be losing our presence in this location and we would like to thank all our customers for their support and for shopping with us.

"We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our in-store colleagues who we will support with this transition and redeploy to nearby stores, where possible.”

Following the closure the nearest WHSmith shops will be in Windsor and Maidenhead.

The closing date for the in-store Post Office has yet to be confirmed.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and the vacancy is currently advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk and we would like to hear from retailers about this business opportunity.”
