PUPIL representatives from 12 schools received training last week to learn how to encourage their classmates to live a healthy lifestyle.

A total of 47 pupils, aged between nine and 11, visited Newlands Girls School for a one day conference last Friday, organised by the Ascot and Maidenhead School Sport Partnership.

Emma Fitzgerald, partnership development manager of the partnership, said: “Its brilliant for the partnership to be able to continue the Olympic Legacy, particularly with the build up to Rio 2016, and give these children the tools to make a difference in their own schools.

"They really are part of something bigger working through the partnership with other schools.”

A team of four role models has been chosen from each primary school taking part based on how they inspire others, their organisational skills and initiative.

Each team aims to help their school live a healthier lifestyle by encouraging participation in sport in and out of school.

During friday's training event, the pupils from Cookham Dean, Riverside, Wessex, All Saints, Courthouse, Manor Green, Woodlands Park, Cookham Rise, St Michaels, Bisham, Holyport, and St Marys primary schools learnt more about their role, the skills needed to do the job and received training on the key skills such as communication skills and organisational skills.

The ambassadors will also be running a Change 4 Life activity club at each of their schools to help encourage their classmates to become more active.
