THE newly-promoted Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) team started life in Division One of the Southern Athletics League with a good second place in Dartford.

WSEH recorded a total of 205 points to finish behind match winners Chelmsford (216), with Southampton (177) back in third position.

There were good results in the sprint events with Michael Louise setting the trend with top points in the 100-metre (m) A-race in a personal best (pb) time of 11.2 seconds (secs). Aaron Lawrence was second in the B-race in 11.5secs.

Newcomer Richard King also had a good run to place second in the 200m in 22.6secs. There was a good pb for Isaac Osei-Tutu in the 400m with a time of 51.0secs.

Dominic McDougall, 16, showed maturity beyond his years in the 800m, losing out in the A-string race by a whisker with one minute, 58.7 seconds (1:58.7).

The 1,500m produced a track double for the club with Sam Southall, 16, impressing in winning the A-string with 4:18.4. Long-time race leader Dan Brookling won the B-string on 4:20.5.

Simon Millett trailed the two Southampton runners for most of the 5,000m race before making his move with two laps to go, winning in 15:39.8. Steve Kimber was second in the B-string on 16:56.4.

Louise was back on the track in the 110m hurdles, this time having to settle for second place in 15.6secs.

The high jump saw David Walker achieve a 1.95m clearance but have to settle for second place on countback. To fill a gap in the team, he then contested the pole vault, clearing a surprise 3.30m to place third.

Sam Challis was his usual consistent self, finishing second in the long jump with 6.49m. Teepee Princewell went one better to win the triple jump with 13.99m.

WSEH struggled somewhat in the throwing events with the best result coming in the javelin and a victory for Jude Compton-Stewart with 48.47m. Rory Naylor finished second in the B-string with 32.86m. Iain Botting was another to take second place, this time in the hammer with 42.80m.

The WSEH ladies sprinters opened with a winning double. Ayoola Babalola, 16, took the A-string 100m in 12.3secs, with Kennedy Bays claiming the B race in 12.7secs.

Jess Armah continued the sprint supremacy by taking the 200m in 24.7secs, but this time Babalola had to settle for second in the B race in 25.7secs.

Anna Croft was the best of the WSEH 400m athletes with her second place in 58.1secs.

Newcomer Jennifer Ball made her track debut with a win in the 3,000m in 11:15.2, with Juliet Soane ensuring maximum points for the club by winning the B string with 11:42.7.

Anna Croft had a busy afternoon with second place in the 100m hurdles(16.1secs) and the 400m hurdles(63.6secs). She was well supported by Rachel Melbourne, second in the 100m hurdles B-string with 16.3secs and Alice Flint, who won the B-string 400m hurdles in 66.1secs.

The high jump saw Jodie Smith take second place with 1.60m, with the busy Melbourne second in the B-string with 1.50m.

Sister Sarah Melbourne was the B string triple jump winner with 10.90m, behind Letisha Richardson’s A-string second place on 11.39m.

Sarah Melbourne went on to place second in the shot with 11.08m, with veteran Barbara Norris winning the B-string on 10.48m.

Norris was also second in the hammer with a throw of 42.37m, with another WSEH veteran Janet Smith, placing second in the B-string with 35.35m.

The javelin event provided a second place for Jodie Smith on 35.25m whilst the energetic veteran Barbara Norris won the B-string with 28.18m.

The 4x100m relay events saw more victories for WSEH with the men winning in 43.7secs and the ladies with 49.9secs.
