EAGER Maidenhead Athletics Club runners Lynsey Robbins and Simon Goldfinch took part in the 2017 Yorkshire Marathon while Sue McEwen and Dawn Goldfinch competed in the 10-mile event.

This was a first marathon for Robbins and and a first competitive distance event for McEwen for some time.

With running conditions close to perfect and amongst some 700 other marathon runners, both Robbins and Simon Goldfinch performed extremely well over a course that was very scenic and undulating, especially in the second half.

Robbins time of four hours, 34 minutes and 38 seconds (04:34.38) was better than she expected for her first marathon.

Dawn Goldfinch and McEwen set off shortly after the marathon starting amongst 4,000 runners. Both ran beyond their expectations with Goldfinch (01:55.50) setting a new personal best and knocking five minutes off the time of her previous 10-mile race.

Lynsey Flitton ran the Chester Metric Marathon in 04:51.31 despite feeling very much below par due to a virus.

There were Maidenhead runners at the Bournemouth Marathon and Half Marathon last weekend. Dennis Murphy ran the marathon and finished in 04:24.44 while Elisa Harris ran the Half Marathon in 01:59.18

Tom and Ellen Easten were in Chicago with Tom running in the Marathon and Ellen the 5k. Tom had a tough second half to his race but finished in 02:57.05.

Ellie aimed for a sub 20-minute race but was thwarted by a strong headwind. Her time was 20.53 but she finished in 15th place, ahead of Paula Radcliffe and Joan Samuelson.
