IVER Heath reached the final in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup this season after a 3-2 win against Newport Pagnell Town Reserves on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

Their incredible route to the final began with a 2-1 victory at Penn & Tylers Green Development – who have a perfect winning record in the Hellenic League Division Two South – in round two back in October.

Iver dispatched Mursley United Development from the North Bucks Intermediate League 4-0 in the third round before reaching the last eight with a 3-0 success at Stokenchurch – another Hellenic League club – early in the New Year.

The quarter final saw The Heath edge out East Berkshire League rivals Old Windsor – who have a perfect winning record in the Premier Division – 3-2 in mid-January.

Newport Pagnell Town are members of the Future Lions United Counties League Reserves Division and took the lead at the Iver Heath Recreation Ground with a goal in the opening 60 seconds.

Iver equalised when Dean Papali saw his shot nestle in the back of the net off the crossbar before half-time and the hosts got their noses in front as Papali chipped the onrushing keeper from the edge of the box midway through the second half.

The home team increased the advantage when Papali squared the ball for Jermaine Francis to finish well with 20 minutes still to play in the tie.

The final 15 minutes were nervous and Iver were hanging on a little but still dangerous on the counter attack.

Newport Pagnell reduced the arrears with a fine free kick from the edge of the box to set up a tight finish, but The Heath were strong enough to see out the game.

Iver Heath will meet Wargrave in the Intermediate Cup final this season. The final has provisionally been arranged for Easter Saturday (April 11) but that has not been confirmed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. No venue and kick off time have yet been confirmed by the County FA.

Wargrave are currently top of the table in Division One of the Thames Valley Premier League having suffered defeat just once in 12 league matches so far this season.

Wargrave have beaten Cholsey United, Long Wittenham Athletic, Kintbury Rangers Reserves, Saxton Rovers Reserves, AFC Aldermaston Reserves and Aylesbury Vale Dynamos to reach the cup final.

Iver Heath turn their attention to the East Berkshire League Cup and a trip to Premier Division rivals KS Gryf in the last-16 this Saturday.
