THE Slough Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Club, in association with The British Wrestling Association, is hosting an Under 16s competition on Sunday 23rd February at the Singh Sabha Sports Centre in Stoke Poges Lane.

This is the first of its kind for many years in the South of England. Coaches at the club felt it is time to develop wrestling at grassroots level thus further establishing Slough as a centre of excellence.

The ages to be contested are from 5-16 years-old and starting at 18 kilograms in weight as per the BWA regulations.

Entries to the competition are open on the BWA website and a number of clubs have already entered their teams into the competition.

Clubs from Manchester, Bolton, Wigan, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Bedford and London are amongst other cities expected.

Slough wrestling club will feature a strong team of over 15 wrestlers and will be favourites to lead the medals table.

Many junior British champions will be taking part in the competition and it will be a welcome site for Olympic freestyle wrestling fans from the South of England.

The club coaches include Inderpal Cheema, Jaspal Kharia, Simon Polish, Parr Sohota, Manny Johal and Ranjit Sandhu are very excited and look forward to establishing the competition as an annual event.

Wrestling will take place on two Olympic size 12 x 12 metres 40mm thick UWW regulations mats. The referees will be provided by the BWA, electronic score boards will be provided to score the points.

Wrestling will commence in the morning at 10.30am and finish at 4pm. The finals will be last conducted in ascending order followed by the medals and trophies ceremony.

Admission to the general public is £1 for children and £2.00 for adults respectively.

A café serving snacks, hot and cold drinks will be open at 9.30am and car parking is free all day.
