MATTHEW Watson has secured a scholarship with Sand Martins Golf Club as part of their Feel Inspired Academy Satellite Club for Children with SEND programme.

The 13-year-old is Autistic and attends St Crispins School (Special Unit) in Wokingham.

He received the support of club professional Symon O'Keefe and Alan Leason, the Feel Inspired Academy manager.

Leason said: "Matthew has really grown in stature and confidence by learning to play golf through lessons with Symon. He attends the club every week along with his younger brother Daniel and his dad."

Sporting activities had been difficult before turning to golf, but Watson's father said: "His driving, chipping and putting are improving, as well as hand-eye coordination which has had a positive impact on the enjoyment of other sports as well."

Leason added: "This further demonstrates we are delivering the programme's mission statement to change children’s lives through golf."
