WINDSOR ladies had a dream start to the new season in the Trysports Hockey League after two wins and two clean sheets on Saturday.

The first team began their campaign in Division One in style following a 3-0 victory at Newbury & Thatcham 2s.

Windsor put the home team on the back foot from the first whistle and a sharp cross from captain Freya Hayter found Maxine Bonnage to open the scoring.

The second goal came after a dazzling solo run from midfielder Laura Hayes, who picked the ball up near the halfway line and weaved past four players to challenge and beat the keeper in a one-on-one opportunity.

The visitors added to the scoreline midway through the second half when a shot on goal from Hayter was stopped on the line by the body of a defender, giving them a penalty flick. The Windsor captain calmly stepped up to convert and secure the points.

Windsor welcome Amersham & Chalfont 3s to The Windsor Boys' School this Saturday.

There was a minute of silence before the second team game at home against Henley 3s as a mark of respect to club stalwart, Patsy Welford, who recently lost her brave battle with a lengthy illness.

Welford was the serving fixtures secretary and umpire secretary and teams across the South region followed suit. Welford was also secretary for the South Club Women's Hockey League.

Windsor did Welford proud with a 2-0 win in a tough match.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play in the second half as a link-up on the left between Minerva Christiaan-Rakus and Emma Thatcher saw the ball drilled into the D. In a well-timed run, Vicky Thompson was at the far post to slot the ball past the keeper.

A thrilling solo effort from Alice Treadwell, who swept past opposition players from the halfway line and into the D to beat the keeper in a one-on-one, gave Windsor some breathing space.

Windsor travel to Bicester 2s in Division Three this Saturday whilst the club's men's teams also get their season under way.
