MAIDENHEAD United completed their preparations for the new season in the National League after a 0-0 draw against Wycombe Wanderers last Friday, writes Rob Stevens.

Both sides were looking to maintain their unbeaten record in pre-season so the annual visit from Wycombe to York Road promised to be an exciting encounter.

Maidenhead received a boost prior to kick-off when it was announced defender Aron Davies had put pen to paper after a successful trial period. The Magpies also signed forward Bernard Mensah on a season-long loan from Bristol Rovers.

Wycombe had the best chance to break the deadlock but Taye Ashby-Hammond, on loan from Fulham, produced a brilliant double save to deny the Chairboys just before half-time.

Josh Kelly had earlier looked to test Wanderers keeper Ryan Allsop but his header from a left wing cross glanced over the crossbar.

Maidenhead will take confidence into the new season having kept clean sheets against both Wycombe and Stevenage Borough. In fact, the Magpies have only conceded four goals in six friendlies, scoring nine times.
