IN A good start for the week at Windsor & Eton Bowls Club, Charlie Andrew beat Stephen Danvers of Bracknell 21-15 in the county Unbadged Singles.

Tony Scott claimed his place in the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions singles competition by beating Peter Rogers of Abingdon 21-10.

Chris Heitzmann, Kel Crump, Stan Rawlings and Barrie Taylor were beaten 17-14 by rivals from Windsor Great Park, knocking them out of the county Fours.

The KLV A team won by the narrowest margin of 51-50 against visiting rivals, the Royal Household. The best performing rink was David Bradfield, Brian Parish and Scott. Their 22-10 win contributed to the total of 6 points, compared to 4 for the Household.

The B team lost their match at Wraysbury 68-35. The only successful rink was Ian Hunter, Derek Smith and Taylor, with 16-13, earning the club two points, whilst the hosts took eight.

The C team travelled to Maidenhead Thicket to play their B side.

Windsor & Eton

were a player short, leaving the two Colins (Berwick and Andrews) to play against three opponents but only losing the rink by a single shot 16-15. A 25 per-cent penalty for being a man down however reduced that to 16-11.25.

The match ended with the

Goswell Meadow-based club

ahead overall by one shot but the penalty cost them the match. The adjusted score gave victory to Thicket 55-52.25.

Windsor & Eton’s only winning rink was Tony Lyford, John Rassell and Peter Blem, who clocked up a creditable 32-19.

On a blistering day, hosts Chalfont St. Giles squeezed a two-shot victory out of Windsor & Eton in the first of the friendly matches last weekend.

Winning three rinks each the final score was 97-95. The top rink was Else Lyford, Andrews and Martin Allum.

The following day, Wellingborough Bowls Club were the visitors, their second time at Goswell Meadow. Despite out-scoring the home side on three of the five rinks, the overall score went against them 104-92. Top rink honours went to Heitzmann, Les Swaney, Yvonne Hurley and Taylor.

Ralph Cooke and Richard Heathman won their London & Southern Counties Pairs tie against Martin Payne and Dave Ayton of Egham 21-13.This puts the Windsor & Eton pair in the area zone final against Southampton Old Green.
