KORCHO recorded a second win at Windsor Racecourse this season after quickening impressively to land a Class 4 Handicap on Monday.

The son of Toronado, a dual Group One winner in his 12-race career, won at the Berkshire track on his seasonal debut back in April.

Now five pounds higher in the Handicap, the Hughie Morrison-trained colt was sent off a well-supported 9-4 chance for the 10 furlong contest.

Korcho tracked the leading pair under Oisin Murphy and was shaken up against the rail to lead just over a furlong from the finish to comfortably beat runner-up Alnadir (2-1 favourite) by five lengths.

Irish Acclaim (4-1) showed promise on debut in a six-furlong Maiden Stakes, staying on once the penny dropped to finish in third position.

The son of Acclamation, a six-times winner and excellent source of precocious and speedy two-year-olds, chased the leaders against the rail under Adam Kirby. He was urged along without progress two furlongs from the finish but stayed on to take third in the last strides.

The contest was won by 5-1 chance Knight Shield, who stayed on to lead under the shadow of the post from runner-up Tambourine Girl (7-1).

The feature Class 3 Handicap, a qualifier for the

Windsor

Sprint Series, went the way of Open Wide for trainer Amanda Perrett and Pat Dobbs, who also won aboard Knight Shield in a 47-1 double.

The gelded son of Invincible Spirit, who won the Group One Sprint Cup at Haydock Park on his final career start in 2002, has never finished out of the first three in eight starts at the Berkshire track with form figures of 12222331.

Open Wide was held up in last place before being shaken up to progress on the wide outside a final furlong the finish. The well-timed run saw the 7-1 chance lead in the last 75-yards for a half-length win over Sunsprite (7-1), with Louie De Palma (3-1 joint-favourite) back in third place.

Racing returns to Windsor for a three-day festival that gets under way this Saturday and features the Midsummer Stakes (3.25pm), a one-mile Listed race that has attracted Oh This Is Us, Cardsharp and Matterhorn amongst the entries.
