DATCHET have maintained their unbeaten start to the season in Division One after a two-wicket victory against Horspath on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and elected to field first at The Wally Gage Memorial Ground, with Horspath making 165 runs all out from 56.3 overs.

Oliver Smithson claimed Horspath captain Will Eason (16) in his 3-50 from 15 overs whilst the other wicket fell to David Brent (1-24 from 13.3 overs).

Opening batsman William Robertson top-scored for the visitors with 40 runs from 123 balls, including seven boundaries, while number nine Jamil Faruk finished unbeaten with 32 from 44.

managed 171-8 in 55.2 overs in response for their sixth win from seven matches this season, which sees them remain in second position in the table and just three points defending champions Henley.

Number three Brent fell agonisingly short of a third career century and first since 2016 with an unbeaten 99 runs from 144 balls, including seven boundaries and two maximum hits.

Tom Lambert, batting at number nine, made 16 from 47 balls and the pair put on 50 runs for the eighth wicket as Datchet recovered from 79-7 to 129-8.

Lloyd Belcher was the pick of the Horspath bowlers with his figures of 5-48 from 19 overs. It is his first five-wicket haul of the summer and takes his average for the season to 24.71.

The other wickets fell to Asad Rafiq (1-10), Tom Cosford (1-37) and Robertson (1-46).

Datchet make the short journey to Upton Court Park to take on rival club Slough this Saturday (11am start).
