ROYAL Ascot week – the best five days of horse racing anywhere in the world – got underway yesterday (Tuesday) with the £600,000 Group One Queen Anne Stakes.
Run over the straight mile for horses aged four and upwards, it was won by 14-1 shot Lord Glitters, ridden by Danny Tudhope and trained by David O'Meara.
Last year the grey had finished second behind Accidental Agent, whose chances of a repeat victory yesterday never got going as he stood still when the stalls opened and refused to race.
Lord Glitters came from the back of the field to win a thrilling finish, beating Beat The Bank (20/1) by a neck with One Master, also 20/1, in third place.
"He deserved to land a race like this. He's a super horse," commented Tudhope.
"The race panned out perfect for him."
It was Yorkshire trainer O'Meara's fourth Royal Ascot win.
