DATCHET maintained their perfect start to the new season in Division One of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League after a 168-run victory at Tring Park on Saturday.

The newly-promoted side have won their first four matches and continue to set the pace at the top of the league table with defending champions Henley.


won the coin toss and elected to bat first in Hertfordshire, reaching 269-9 from their allotted 50 overs.

Opening batsman Joe Barrett top-scored with 51 runs from 52 balls, with nine boundaries. It is his fourth half-century of the season and was part of a 98-run partnership with captain Steven Naylor (26) for the first wicket.

David Brent (28) and Joseph Thomas (23) put on 54 for the third wicket, before Chris Peploe, batting at number seven, added 50 runs from 44 balls, with six boundaries.

Steven Clark was the pick of the Tring bowlers with his figures of 3-41 from seven overs, including the wicket of Berkshire star James Morris (2).

The home side managed 101 runs all out in response from 27.2 overs for a third defeat this season which keeps them bottom of the league table.

Captain and opening batsman Shelvin Gumbs was the top scorer with 38 runs from 32 balls, with three boundaries and two maximum hits.

Michael Payne (21) and Sheridon Gumbs (11) were the only other batsman to reach double figures

Oliver Birts was the chief destroyer for Datchet with his figures of 5-22 from 8.2 overs, which includes the wickets of Chloe Hill and Tom Weymes for a duck. He was backed up by Oliver Smithson (2-33 from five overs).

Datchet return to the Wally Gage Memorial Ground for the visit of third in the table High Wycombe this Saturday (11.30am).
