BERKSHIRE CCC open their season with an attractive limited-overs friendly against a Middlesex XI at the Wormsley ground at Stokenchurch this Sunday (11am).

The team will not be announced until later this week, but head coach Tom Lambert looks to have a larger squad to choose from than last season when they won the Minor Counties title for the third year running.

Newcomers include Savin Perera, a 19-year-old opening left-handed batsman who last season played for the Middlesex and Nottinghamshire 2nd XIs.

He has also played for England Under 19s.

"He's a great addition to our squad," commented Lambert.

Another England U19 representative, Tom Scriven, an all-rounder who played for Berkshire junior teams before switching to Hampshire, has rejoined the county, as has experienced left-arm spinner Luke Beaven.

Beaven, currently in New Zealand, played with Reading before moving to Reigate Priory in the Surrey Championship.

Berkshire also welcome back all-rounder Ollie Wilkin, who is keen to get going again after taking a complete break from cricket last year.

But they have lost the services of opening bat Waqas Hussain, who has switched to Cambridgeshire, the county in which the former Slough and Henley star now plays his club cricket.

Berkshire and Henley wicketkeeper Jack Davies has signed a two-year contract with Middlesex, where he links up with another former Berkshire player, Martin Andersson.

Spectators going to the match at Wormsley are advised to take their own seating and refreshments.
