THE Datchet Village Saturday team won the Thames Valley Premier League Junior Cup in their first season after victory against Harchester Hawks Development on Friday.

Datchet started the stronger and hit the crossbar twice before opening the scoring through Daniel Sharp.

More pressure followed and the advantage was soon doubled via Dan Chenery, finishing superbly from a tight angle.

Harchester started to get more into the match at this point and pulled a goal back when a penalty was conceded by the Village defence.

The Hawks were level five minutes later following a goalmouth scramble from a corner and the scores were tied at half-time.

Datchet emerged as a much better side following a strong half-time teamtalk but spurned some decent chances to take the lead.

Finally, through a wonderful solo effort from Marcus Hippolyte, they did restore their advantage.

Harchester continued to press and had chances of their own but, with a minute left in the match, Jem Hussein broke clear of the defence to make it 4-2 and ensure the silverware was on its way back to Datchet.

Datchet manager Andrew Clemens said: “I’m so proud of everyone that’s been involved with our Saturday team this season. We’ve done so well and to win a cup final in our first season is beyond what I expected.

“Credit must go to Harchester who pushed us all the way and had some great supporters.

“Special thanks must go to my assistant manager, Steve Turner, whose help and guidance is magnificent. I would also thank everyone that came to support us, I was blown away with the numbers that came to watch.

“We now want to finish the season in style by winning the league and taking home the double.”

The Datchet Village Sunday first team came from behind to beat Maidenhead Nomads 4-3 in the closing moments of the match.

The third team drew 2-2 with Slough United Reserves.
