THE Eton Excelsior Rowing Club masters women lived up to their name when winning both races in the C and E categories in Molesey.

The women are part of a newly-formed eight strong squad who, under Eton Excelsior Chief Coach, Paul Franklin, also took first and second place in a mixture of quad and doubles races at the Weybridge Winter Head Race.

In the C category the winners were Kathy Johnson, Amy Hewitt, Erica Moon and Caroline Hague. Successful in the E category were Fiona Brewer, Alice Allen, Nicki Kelly and Sian Arion.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with the masters teammates were the men and senior women’s squads that both rowed in boats of eight at Henley (women) and Molesey (men). The two squads are working towards the head of the river races.

Franklin said: “I’m really pleased to see even greater participation from the club in events this year, particularly the success of all the athletes in the expanded masters women’s squad.”

As well as training elite rowers, Eton Excelsior also welcomes beginners.

The club has confirmed it will be holding its Novice Regatta on Sunday 19th May. The event, which require no previous rowing experience, allows people who would like to try the sport to take part in several sessions and learn how to row before teaming up with other beginners to take part in a fun mini-regatta and Family Fun Day.
