told the Observer: “It was a good game but the strong wind spoilt it a little bit for both sides. The conditions were not ideal for free-flowing football.

“In fairness, if we had taken our chances then we probably would’ve won by five or six goals. I spoke with their manager after the game and he said had we beaten them 5-1 it would probably have been a fair result on the day.

“It was a good performance and in cup football it’s all about getting through. We were under a little bit of pressure at times but we dealt with it and were as confident as we could be.”

Sweetman continued: “We picked up another three injuries last weekend and two of them will definitely be unavailable for this Saturday.

The Port boss added: "We can look forward to the semi-finals now although I'm not sure who we will get.

"It's a nice distraction from the league and we've played well in each round so far.

"It seems to have gone on forever with the Group Stage process, but I'm chuffed to progress and reach the semi-finals, and they boys have played well.

"Our remit at the start of the season was to finish higher than fifth position and win some silverware, which we managed to do at the start of the season."
