Windsor Ladies produced a spirited performance to hold promotion-chasing South Berkshire 2nds to a goalless draw in Division One of the Trysports Three Counties League.

Despite a strong opening 20 minutes, they were unable to unlock the visitors' defence in a finely balanced game.

Both sets of forwards were thwarted by solid back fours in a match where only a piece of magic, or a costly error, would have led to a goal.

After the break, South Berks upped the pace as they knew all three points would leave them level with leaders Wallingford 2nds, but Windsor held firm.

They also tried to launch counter-attacks as captain Freya Hayter pushed the team forward, while Maxine Bonnage and Mel Dobson were always looking to find gaps behind the opposing defence.

The point keeps Windsor at a comfortable fifth in the table ahead of their next game, at Bicester, on Saturday, March 2.

Windsor 2nds bounced back to winning form by defeating hosts Reading Rogues 3-1 in Division Four.

They stay a clear second in the table, but five points behind unbeaten leaders Sonning 4ths.

Struggling to find their free-flowing attacking play, Windsor were unable to settle for the best part of the first half and their defence initially had problems in dealing with Reading's long-ball game.

The home side took the lead from a penalty corner, but Windsor were quick to respond with a well-timed pass from Paula Green finding Natalie Morrison at the far post and she slotted home her first goal for the team.

Windsor started the second half with a sense of urgency and stand-in skipper Green twice went close before putting her side ahead from a chance created by Nicole McKersie.

She then turned provider again, carving open the Reading defence in the closing minutes before playing the ball through to Lucy Smith, who provided a slick finish.

Windsor men triumphed 1-0 at Marlow 3rds with Will Biff netting the only goal.

They are one of three teams locked together on 31 points, five fewer than leaders Oxford University 3rds.

This weekend they are away to bottom club Ashford 2nds.

In Division Five, third-placed Windsor 2nds defeated Ramgarhia 2nds 3-1 at home with goals from John Carpenter, James Fenton and Neil MacFarlane.

Windsor 3rds lost 4-2 at Abingdon Mens 2nds in Division Six.
