Hellenic League: Burnham FC the better side in Supplementary Cup win against Lydney Town

A goal from Tom Handley have Premier Division team Lydney the lead in the third round tie at The Gore, but Kyle Mifsud equalised just seconds later for the Blues.

The visitors restored their advantage after the break, before Lucas Sinclair levelled the scores with a spectacular overhead kick.

A second fantastic goal from Sinclair gave the home side the lead in the second half of extra-time, but Lydney equalised in the final minute of the additional 30 minute.

Burnham played the last six minutes of extra-time with just nine men after both Sinclair and George Weller were dismissed, however they held on and won the shoot-out 3-2.

Shone told the Observer: “It was a proper cup tie and it had it all, goals, sending offs, extra time and penalties.

“We were very good in the first half. We passed the ball really well and were much the better side. Lydney took the lead but we responded straight away.

“We had to deal with a style of play that we weren’t used to, it was totally different. Lydney were very direct and there’s more than one way to win a football match.

“We were unfortunate not to win in normal time, but our keeper and defence stood up and were brave when they had to be.

“We deserved to go through and played the better football in my eyes, with two more outstanding goals from Lucas.”

He added: “I told the players we shouldn’t be in this situation but Lydney scored with the last kick of the game.

“Sometimes you can feel deflated and sorry for yourselves, but we stood up big.

"Penalties are a lottery but we didn't change our minds and hit the target, plus our keeper was outstanding when making some great saves.

"We did brilliantly when looking horns against a Premier Division side. We looked much the better footballing side in the first-half.

"You can come unstuck if you're not resilient enough but we dealt with it well."
