BRITWELL Reserves player-manager James Betts is disappointed Twyford & Ruscombe gave up on playing midway through their Berks & Bucks Junior Cup match on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

Twyford & Ruscombe went ahead early on in the third round tie but, having lost a player to injury and trailing 5-1 shortly after the break, the visitors refused to continue.

Betts explained he has not seen anything like it before and he is a little disappointed and embarrassed over what happened.

He told the Observer: "We started by playing against 10 men but a little bit slow and un-organised and I only have myself to blame for that.

"We had to defend in the first 10 minutes and went a goal behind, but once we got our shape we done well to get back into it.

"Their players started to walk off after our fifth goal. It was like a tactic from them at half-time.

"It's disappointing because people want to turn up and play football usually. Some of my players have to pay for babysitters so it's disappointing when others make excuses not to play or finish a match.

"It's unfortunate for our subs who've turned up but were not able to play football.

"What I don't understand is why would you travel to a game and not leave everything out there. To be fair, it's a bit embarrassing."

Mike Bevan scored a first-half hat-trick for Britwell, with further goals from Callum Gardener and Josh Bertwhistle.

Britwell Reserves have been drawn away to Harriers in round four of the Junior Cup on Saturday 15th December (1.30pm).

The team currently boasts a 100 per-cent record in Division Two of the East Berkshire League this season, and Betts is targeting league and cup success this season.

He said: "We have a team full of young players that aren't scared of anything so the county cup is a competition we could do quite well in. It's a competition I want to do well in also having won it twice before with Alpha.

"It would be good to carry on in the county cup and we've got enough quality, but it's about the luck of the draw. I would back us at home because we get good numbers and support every week at the Chicken Ranch.

"I want to win a cup and concentrate on the league, where we're fairly comfortable at the moment.

"I had the Slough Town (Challenge) Cup in mind but we started slow and lost in that, but we're looking to win the Presidents Cup for definite."
