SLOUGH Jets head coach Lukas Smital insists his side were unfortunate to lose in a 7-6 thriller away at Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday.

Chelmsford broke the deadlock through Courtney Grant early on, but Slough responded to lead at the end of the first period with goals from Smital, Daniel Rose and Timo Lindgren.

Strikes from Bradley Moore and Charlie Phillips levelled the match for the home side, before Sean Norris put the Jets back in front on 36 minutes.

The middle period finished with the scores level at 4-4 after Moore got his second goal of the match in the 40th minute.

Chelmsford edged ahead when Ross Brears netted on 44 minutes, before Slough got their noses back in front with goals from Norris and Lindgren.

However, the hosts had the last say in the final five minutes as both Grant and James Ayling found the back of the net to secure the points.

Smital told the Observer: “It was an entertaining game for the neutral and we actually played quite well. Performance-wise, there was a big difference to last week and it was an unlucky result.

“We had an unfortunate penalty goal against us and Chelmsford converted the chance to get a little bit of momentum going.

“Chelmsford got into the match and put us on the back foot, but their third goal never actually went in and that was a turning point in the match.

“To concede seven goals is never ideal and we were under a lot of pressure at times, but we should have got the win, especially after the first period when we were flying.”
