ETON Excelsior turned up the heat against the competition once again with a weekend of red-hot racing at the Reading Town and Egham Regattas.

Squads competed across several categories, age groups and abilities and took first place in their races time and time again.

Eton faced competition from local and international clubs on the 800m course at Reading Town where temperatures soared to 29 degrees.

In the adult racing, Stephen Parkinson and Darryl Preston took first place in their masters double sculls race.

Club Vice Captain, Rachel Smillie, and rowing partner Nicki Kelly won their tier two senior double sculls event.

In the junior racing, the girls stormed to victory and brought home silverware in the single sculling (Isabella Checkley) and double sculling (Faye Haswell and Maya Waller).

Amy Donaldson won the senior sculling event when beating two Oxford lightweight crews in the final.

Smillie said: “So far this season we’ve done ourselves proud. The trophy cabinet is bulging and we’re so proud of our achievements as a club.

“From those who started the summer as absolute beginners right through to our talented masters squads, everybody has been learning mentoring each other and competing together, and we have loved every minute.”
