WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club were hard-pressed to make an impact in the second of their British Athletics League Division One matches with a number of key athletes unavailable.

The club finished in sixth place with 219 points in a closely fought match that was won by Harrow (355). Blackheath & Bromley (309) and Southampton (303) completed the podium positions.

Team manager Reiss Durban-Davison made a sterling effort to fill the gaps in the team by competing in seven events. His best result came in the B-string long jump where he placed fourth on 6.11 metres (m).

Another to put himself on the line was Sam Plumb, who contested five events. It was he that opened proceedings on the track with fourth place in the 400m hurdles with 54.46 seconds (secs).

Alex Haydock-Wilson was the lone WSEH winner on the track with his victory in the 400m in 47.32secs. Josh Pearson, 16, also performed well in this event to finish third in the B race in 49.60secs.

The field events opened well for WSEH in the hammer with Luke Norris placing second in the B-string with 34.58m.

The long jump provided another victory for Sam Challis with a new personal best (PB) of 7.25m. Euan Bryden was third in the pole vault with his 4.63m clearance.

Newcomer Paulius Svarauskas made his club debut with a good 14.06m to place third in the triple jump, while Kam Cheung, 16, was inspired to a new PB of 12.24m for third place in the B-string.

With two remaining matches - Bedford in July and Liverpool in August - WSEH will need to field full squads if they are to ensure that their Division One status remains intact.
