A well-established shoe shop is set to be the next to leave the local high street.

Clarks, which has been in Maidenhead's Nicholsons Shopping Centre for over two decades will soon be packing up.

The chain boasts over 300 branches but has lost its footing locally, with its Windsor branch closing in 2022 and its Clarks Factory Shop having also closed in Slough.

A spokesperson from Clarks confirmed the Maidenhead branch will close in June.

They added: "We have a strong duty of care to all our employees, and we are working closely with the store team as they go through a period of consultation. We thank them all for their dedication in serving our customers over the years.

"We’d like to thank our loyal customers who have shopped with us at our Maidenhead store, and we’ll be delighted to continue to serve them with our full range of products online and at our nearby Clarks stores in Beaconsfield, Bracknell, High Wycombe, and Wokingham.”

It comes as more and more shops vacate Nicholsons Shopping Centre, with the likes of CEX having relocated onto the High Street.

Plans are currently in the works to demolish the 1960s shopping centre and re-build it into a street-based mixed-use town centre.

However, plans were halted when Smokey's nightclub refused to sell up and vacate.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are now in the last stages of a compulsory purchase order which if given approval will give the plans the green light.
