Proposals to squeeze a new three bedroom house onto a street corner have been refused by Slough Borough Council.

A company called A’Lake Slough Ltd wanted to build the house on a patch of land six metres wide and 22 metres long, on the corner of Rodney Way and The Hawthornes, near Bath Road.

But council planning officers said the new house would be too big for the plot and therefore an ‘overdevelopment’ of the site.

Plans submitted by A’Lake suggest the company sought advice from planning officers before applying.

However this was for a two bedroom house. After getting advice A’Lake says it found the neghbour’s garage ‘provided an opportunity for the rear wall at the first floor to extend,’ allowing for an ‘additional bedroom.’

The company said this would make the proposal ‘a proper family home.’  But planning officers said the larger home would create a ‘visual intrusion’ not in keeping with the rest of the area.

Their refusal letter said: “The development, by reason of its scale, height, appearance, visual impact and location would result in a significant visual intrusion which would be incompatible with the surroundings.

“The development would have an obtrusive visual impact within the area and would fail to improve the character or appearance of the surroundings.”
