With just days to go before motorists can once again cross the Cookham Bridge, questions have been raised over what the new ANPR-regulated weight limit will mean.

One resident has queered whether buses and coaches will be able to cross, as both vehicles exceed the 7.5-tonne weight limit.

The Cookham Bridge is one of ten areas in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead where new ANPR cameras are being rolled out to monitor traffic and catch rule breakers.

Cookham Bridge will reopen to the public on Saturday, March 16, with the Council stating ANPR cameras will be introduced "only once essential maintenance is completed".

When approached for clarification over whether heavy people transporting vehicles will be re-routed the council stated there will be exemptions.

A council spokesperson said: “Weight limits often include exemptions for buses, coaches and other public service vehicles as they require legitimate access within the area covered by the weight limit.

"These exemptions also apply to Cookham Bridge and buses and coaches can use the bridge.”
