A consultation asking resident's opinions on a major overhaul of one of Slough's busiest roads including reduced speed limits and better cycle lanes has now closed.

Destination Farnham Road is a project funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, whereby Slough Borough Council was awarded £9million to facilitate the scheme. The council have committed an additional grant of £1million to the scheme.

Once complete, the road will have a two-way off-road cycle route, upgraded footways and street lighting.

The plans relate to the northern side of the A4 Bath Road and covers the stretch of A355 Farnham Road from its junction with Cumberland Avenue to its junction with the A4 Bath Road, though most of the works are centred around the shops between Cumberland Avenue and Sheffield Road.

The proposed scheme sets out to address traffic congestion, parking demand, safety issues, air quality and to provide a public realm scheme to support the busy and active space that residents and businesses use on a daily basis.

Residents were given the opportunity to have their say on the plans in a consultation which launched on December 11, 2023, and ended on February 11.

Following the closure of the consultation, council officers will now review the responses and designs of the scheme.

A cabinet report will then be prepared and the preliminary designs and consultation feedback will be discussed in a cabinet meeting in April 2024, where approval to construct the scheme will be sought.

Once the detailed designs are approved, a further consultation will take place for the temporary and permanent traffic regulation orders.

In the six months following this, a monitoring exercise will be undertaken and another at the year mark to document the impact of the scheme.

Slough Borough Council transport lead councillor Paul Kelly previously said: “This is a scheme which could transform Farnham Road and the surrounding roads, making the area better for residents, businesses, visitors and all road users."
