A group of residents tired of having their roads blocked by commuters using the train station have launched a petition demanding more to be done.

On December 20 a petition called 'Require Additional Parking Restrictions for Non-Residents Near Burnham Station' was launched on Slough Borough Council's site, started by residents of Royston Way, Crosthwaite Way, Meadway and Sandringham Court.

They wrote: "We are continually inconvenienced and tired of our cars being damaged, blocked in-and-out and unable to enter into Royston Way or Crosthwaite Way due to parking of London commuters from Burnham train station and school pick-up and drop-off.

"During the day and night large numbers of non-residents take up a large portion of the available parking, which is creating issues to the residents.

"People are parking on both sides of these roads, unable to enter and manoeuvre, which has been causing a lot of trouble to the residents. We have already raised this many times, no solution found so far."

Currently, 66 people have signed the e-petition which is set to close later today (January 17).

On visiting the area, the Observer noted both the Burnham Lane Car Park and Burnham Station Car Park were at full capacity, with some motorists leaving their cars outside of bays, resulting in a parking ticket and hefty penalty.

The entrance of Sandringham Court was chock-a-block with cars, however, it remained manageable.

Speaking to residents Odette Myles who lives off Sandringham Court in Berkeley Mews said she was not aware of the petition.

"Sometimes there are quite a few people who park down the road," she said. "The road can be quite bad."

One man who wished not to be named said: "They do sometimes park on both sides of the road [near the road entrance], when they are not supposed to park on the station side."

He felt that the yellow lines needed to be repainted to make it obvious where you can't park.

"The lines are all warn out. They also seem to not give out parking tickets regularly."

Another resident stated her driveway is sometimes blocked by parked cars.

Cara, 31, who lives in a flat down Sandringham Court said her neighbour has been forced to park halfway down the road despite having two young twins.

"It is really hard to get parking," she said.

Cara added it gets particularly difficult to park after 5pm when people are picking up others or collecting their cars, causing the entrance to the road to be blocked.

She was not aware of the petition and said she felt on the fence about signing it over concerns that any future parking restrictions could impact residents.

"When there is no parking I have to park on a single yellow line," Cara admitted.

Sandringham Court has a mixture of single yellow, double yellow and permit parking bays, with single yellow lines preventing parking between 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm Monday to Friday.

Cara said she feels frustrated at the high permit parking fees when a space is not guaranteed.

"The parking is dreadful," she added.

Other residents further down the road who benefitted from driveways said they had not had any issues, but the entrance to the road can sometimes be difficult to navigate.

On visiting Royston Way, Crosthwaite Way and Meadway, parking restrictions were already in force, with single yellows preventing parking between 10am and 11an to combat commuters leaving their cars.

Slough Borough Council said: "We are aware some residents have concerns about parking in this area. We have started the process to deliver controlled parking zones around the borough, and petitions will help as they identify areas of concern.

"The number of signatures looks to be lower than the threshold to discuss at a council meeting, but the information will certainly be considered by our parking team."
