A new secure cycle parking hub is set to come to one of Windsor’s main cycling routes in spring next year.

The hub, which is due to be built next to Windsor Leisure Centre, will allow cyclists to store their bikes in a protected space when using the facilities.

Funded by Active Travel England, it will include 36 spaces as two tier racks, Sheffield stands, cargo stands as well as a pump and repair stand.

Royal Borough Council transport lead Geoff Hill said: “This new secure cycling hub is great for cyclists in Windsor and thanks to the valuable input from local cycling groups such as the Windsor Cycle Hub, and Windsor Ascot & Maidenhead Active Travel, we’ve been able to create a design that reflects what’s needed.

“Creating safer and more convenient walking and cycling routes, empowering more people to reduce their reliance on vehicles for short journeys where possible, not only supports our work to combat climate change, but gives residents what they need to improve their health and wellbeing.”

Cyclists will use an app to book their parking spaces, which includes a secure ID verification process aimed to ensure only they can access it.

The spaces can be booked in advance at any time and will cost £1.50 per day. There will be CCTV with 24/7 monitoring as well as app customer support.

Construction on the hub is expected to begin early next year.
