A car was seen bursting into flames during rush hour in Slough.

One man has recounted the moment he heard explosions and saw "black fumes" while parents hurried their children to school.

At about 8:30am on Wednesday, November 29, emergency services were called to Ellis Avenue near Claycotts School, after reports of a car on fire.

Fabio Abraha said: "I heard an explosion and started seeing black fumes.

"I thought it was a house burning. I heard more explosions and some kids walking by told me it was a car."

Getting closer Fabio said the vehicle was a black Mercedes Benz, with the front of the vehicle up in flames.

"The fire brigade and the police responded super quick, they arrived in five minutes," Fabio said.

"It was very close to the house."

Fabio was told by a parent passing by that the car belonged to a father who went to drop his children off at school.

"Thank god nobody was hurt and it didn't happen when anyone was in the car," he added.

Upon closer inspection, Fabio added the car appeared to be petrol and not electric.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they responded to the car fire at 8:37am and a fire crew from Langley Fire Station was sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival, crews discovered a car on fire. Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"The crew was on the scene for apparently 54 minutes."
