The Princess of Wales has been seen wearing a pair of earrings gifted to her by a local mum.

On Tuesday, October 10, Princess Kate, joined by Prince William, launched their latest phase of a campaign aimed at supporting the UK's mental health.

At the launch in Birmingham, the pair called for “concrete action” to help the next generation.

Kate gave a major speech to young people for a day of workshops and discussions around the issue to mark World Mental Health Day, and told them their ultimate goal was to “shape fairer, safer, kinder, more equal societies”.

The princess highlighted the potential pressures of a fast-changing world where “social media and concerns about the threat of conflicts, pandemics, climate change or the cost of living” can affect our emotional well-being.

For the visit, Kate wore star-shaped earrings given to her in May by Sarah Renton in Maidenhead as a tribute to her daughter Issy Phipps who took her own life.

Issy had been 17 years old and had been playing touch rugby for England alongside an elite rugby programme.

Princess Kate learnt about Issy when she visited Maidenhead Rugby Club on June 7 where she met with local players and participated in sporting tryouts, before speaking about the importance of early years and community settings.

Sarah, 53, gave the princess the pair of earrings named after Issy which her cousin had made following an activity where Kate got involved with a ball game.

Upon opening up about her loss, Princess Kate comforted Sarah, who was hugged by the royal after accepting the gift.

The mother, from Cookham, said: “Issy was wonderful and a real breath of fresh air.

“She had wonderful friends and surrounded herself with the best people. She was nailing life.

“Kate is just a real gentle soul, isn’t she. She just gave me a hug. She said she was devastated.”
