Emergency services rushed to reports of a person who had got into difficulty in a steam.

At 8:09am on Thursday, September 21, the National Police Air Service responded to a report that a man had been seen to go into flood water.

The helicopter was deployed from the Redhill base in Surrey and was deployed to Maidenhead near Ockwells Road with little initial information.

The crew lifted and flew towards the town and arrived at 08:21am to scenes of flooding.

After a brief aerial search, the police aircrew spotted a man on the banks of a river waving for assistance.

Ground police and other emergency service units were directed to his location.

A spokesperson for the National Police Air Service said: "Due to the nature of the incident and immediate risk to the man, the pilot took the decision to land the police aircraft on the nearest piece of dry land, enabling the two Tactical Flight Officers onboard to reach the casualty and administer first aid until ground patrols could reach him.

"On the arrival of an air ambulance, the police helicopter resumed from its landing position to allow the second aircraft to land and airlift the casualty to hospital."

Thames Valley Police added that the man has been taken to hospital in a "serious condition".
