A police cordon is in place after a late-night fire at a tyre garage.

On Sunday night (September 17) Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to Slough Tyre Centre on Petersfield Avenue at 10:41pm where a fire had started.

Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Crews from Slough Fire Station, and crews from Langley and Windsor Fire Stations were sent to the scene, alongside one Officer.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in an external area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels.

"Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour and 13 minutes before the scene was handed over to Thames Valley Police. An investigation to establish the cause of the fire is underway."

Police have now cordoned off the garage and three officers and a police car are stationed at the site.

Both Slough Tyre Centre and neighbouring business Slough Cars Grace House are closed today.

It is unknown what has caused the fire.

The owner of the business has claimed a man on a bike with a delivery bag poured petrol on the tyres and "set the place alight".

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at an address in Petersfield Avenue, Slough, at 11pm yesterday (September 17).

“Officers are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

“Anyone with information, or with any dash-cam footage in the area of Petersfield Avenue between 10pm and midnight, should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230418121.

“Alternatively, provide information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or via its website.”

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue have been contacted for comment.

It is the second incident where a fire has taken place at a garage along Peterfield Avenue.

Last year Thames Valley Police launched an arson investigation after an early morning fire at MD Motors on November 25.
