A much-anticipated local music festival has been postponed until 2024.

Slough Mela was set to take place on Sunday, August 6, however just days before an estimated 15,000 would descend on the town event organisers announced it had been postponed.

It would have been the first time the event had returned to Slough since 2014, boasting a fun fair, picnic area, trade standards, a food court and live music.

Organised by Bright Star Events and Asian Star Radio, 'Mela' is a type of fair or festival, with Slough Mela aimed at celebrating culture and diversity.

In August managing director of Asian Star Radio, Ray Siddique, told the Observer: "Unfortunately the Slough Mela has been postponed until further notice.

"A new date will be announced soon and new tickets will be required for the next event.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Ticket holders for the event have been refunded.

Now an update on Slough Mela's official website reads: "The UK's largest Mela experience returns.

"Slough Mela 2024 date coming soon."

Organisers have confirmed that the event has now been postponed until next summer.

Ray added: "We are in talks with Slough Borough Council and hope to announce a new date very soon."
