ENGINEERING work over this weekend means buses will replace some train services across Berkshire.

Sout Western Railway (SWR) is urging customers to plan ahead this weekend (Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July, 2) as major engineering work are being carried out by Network Rail affecting services.

Affected routes on Saturday, July 1:

Ascot to Aldershot:

  • Aldershot to Ascot services will not run.
  • Buses will run between Aldershot and Ascot.

Affected routes on Sunday, July 2:

Bracknell to Reading:

  • The lines between Bracknell and Reading will be closed all day due to maintenance work. Great Western Railway services between Wokingham and Reading will be affected by this work. 
  • London Waterloo to Reading services will terminate at Bracknell.
  • Buses will run between Bracknell and Reading

Guildford to Ascot:

  • Guildford to Ascot via Aldershot services will not run.
  • Buses will run between Guildford and Ascot via Aldershot.

The engineering works comes before a week of rail strikes set to affect Berkshire from Monday, July 3.

The ASLEF strikes are in place until Saturday, July 8, with "extremely limited services".

Prams and pushchairs that do not fold, bikes, bulky luggage and pets (with the exception of assistance dogs) are not permitted on the replacement buses.

"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience", a spokesperson from SWR said.

Customers are advised to check their entire journey before travelling using a journey planner, as engineering work may also affect other train operators and parts of the wider network.
