A man has been jailed after stealing a generator and hiding it to collect later.

On April 17 at around 2am in the morning, Ryan Sears gained access to a commercial warehouse on the Slough Trading Estate.

He took a portable generator worth £6500 and then carried it to the carpark of the Warehouse.

Due to the weight of the generator, he hid it behind some bins in the car park in order to return later.

In the meantime, a worker at the warehouse noticed that the generator was missing, and checked the CCTV.

Workers at the site spotted and recovered the generator.

Hours later, at around 5.30am on the same day, Sears returned to the site on a bicycle with a view to making off with the generator.

When Sears noticed the generator was not where he hid it, he then tried to get access to a nearby car presumably to make off with it instead of the generator.

His activity has again viewed on CCTV the police were called and officers attended the scene and arrested Sears for the commercial burglary and vehicle interference. A search also found he was carrying a quantity of cannabis.

He was charged later that day with the three offences and plead guilty on the same day.

Sears, aged 45, of Pemberton Road, Slough, was sentenced on May 31, at Reading Magistrates’ Court to 26 weeks’ imprisonment.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of, possession of a controlled drug of Class B – cannabis, burglary non-dwelling, and vehicle interference, at a court hearing at Slough Magistrate’s Court on April 17.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Kerry Woods, of the Priority Crime Team based at Slough, said: “Sears had his heart set on an expensive generator or a car, however those working at the commercial warehouse were wise to his activity, and called in our officers at the perfect time for him to be arrested.

“I would like to thank those working at the warehouse for altering us to this incident so that we could take action and bring Sears to justice.

“We are committed to tackling acquisitive crime and I hope this conviction shows our commitment to obtaining justice for such crimes.”
