Armed police were mobilized in Slough yesterday after reports of a gunshot being heard in Chalvey.

At around 4pm on Sunday, June 4, a man in his twenties and his girlfriend were walking on Chalvey Community Centre side of the pavement on High Street, Chalvey, heading west towards Chalvey Recreation Ground when they heard what sounded like a shot firing.

The pair ran away into the recreation ground. No one was hurt.

Thames Valley Police were alerted of the incident and armed police were sent to search the area in Chalvey, as well as a police helicopter.

Detective Inspector Annabelle Palmer, of Slough CID, said: “I understand this incident may be concerning but we believe it was a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public, and no one was injured.

“Officers, including an armed deployment and the National Police Air Service, attended immediately and searched the area.

“Those involved had already left and no firearm was found, but we are continuing to investigate this as a priority."

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses of the incident, which is being treated as a potential firearm discharge.

Detective Inspector Annabelle Palmer added: “We are appealing for anyone with information about this shocking incident to please get in touch.

“Multiple vehicles and members of the public on foot were in the vicinity of the incident so I believe there will be lots of witnesses who have not spoken to us yet.

“I’d urge anyone with information about this incident to please call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230245201.

“Alternatively, you can provide information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or via its website.”

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while we investigate and conduct reassurance patrols.

“Anyone with concerns is more than welcome to speak to one of our uniformed officers."
