A major supermarket brand is to open in Slough this year.

Originally earmarked for Spring 2023, Aldi has announced that the opening will now be pushed back by nearly five months.

Last year saw the brand get planning permission to turn the old Pets at Home store on the Farnham Road into a supermarket.

At the time, a spokesperson on behalf of Ald saidi: “Aldi is excited to have secured planning permission within an established retail location.

“Not only will the new store bring increased food choice and jobs to the local area, the application will enable vital highways improvements to be made at the junction of Farnham Road and Edinburgh Avenue, and will facilitate Pets at Home’s relocation to an adjacent unit.”

Now, nearly a year on, Aldi has now applied for a premises license - which once approved will allow the store to sell alcohol.

With work still ongoing, The Observer requested an update from Aldi on the supermarkets plans.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Construction for our new Slough store is progressing well as we move towards opening in September this year.

"This will create up to 45 jobs for the community and enable local people to shop and save closer to home.”
