Snow fell across the area this week as temperatures dropped to -1 degrees celsius.

On Wednesday, March 8 residents awoke to a thin layer of snow and cold conditions.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in the area, however, people were sceptical about whether snow would fall in March.

Images across the area show about 1-2cm of snow fell on Wednesday, with periodic snow showers hitting the area.

Motorists were warned of "severe" weather by National Highways, with "blizzard-like" conditions on major roads.

Gritters were sent out on local roads to help minimise delays following the cold night.

However, local transport routes were affected by the snow with some bus routes experiencing delays of up to 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, an accident on Farthing Green road in Slough forced the stretch of road to close for an hour after a car veered into a bush, damaging a van in its path.

Thames Valley Police urged drivers to "drive to the conditions and don't be afraid to drive a little slower."

According to the Met Office, the cold snap is coming to a close, with temperatures expected to increase over the coming days.

The Met Office have said Friday, March 9 will be "cold, with rain, sleet or snow easing".

"Sunny spells" are likely and "isolated snow showers are possible through the afternoon."

Widespread frost and ice is possible overnight, with a maximum temperature 7C and a minimum temperature of -2C.

Over the weekend the likelihood of frost and ice continues - "bright by day but rain occasionally heavy overnight".

Saturday temperatures will rise to 7C and fall to 4C.

Sunday is expected to reach highs of 13C and lows of 10C - being "dry and bright", but "wet and windy" going into Monday.
