Members of the public gathered at Eton College Chapel on Sunday, December 4 to enjoy an evening of carols in aid of the British Refugee Council and the Windsor Homeless Project.

Over 400 people attended the service which ran from 6pm, treating the audience to a traditional mix of congregational and choir carols, featuring biblical readings telling the story of the Nativity.

Comprised of boys from Eton College, the choir performed works including Jesus Christ the Apple Tree, the Sussex Carol and the Coventry Carol.

Slough Observer:

A new piece based on a traditional Ukrainian carol, Sleep, Jesus, Sleep (Spy, Isuse, Spy) by Roxanna Panufnik was also performed on the night aimed at raising funds for The British Refugee Council.

The fundraiser has so far received £2772 of donations on their GoFundMe page.

At the end of the service a collection was also taken for the Windsor Homeless Project and L’Arche, raising over £1,270.

A local resident said: “It’s an absolute treat to have such high-quality musicianship on our doorstep and the atmosphere created by the Eton choristers was truly uplifting – a wonderful precursor to Christmas.

"It was lovely to hear a few unusual choral items as well as the traditional carols. A rousing rendering of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing was the perfect finale.”
