A SENIOR councillor has been removed from all of their committee appointments following a “wholly inappropriate outburst”.

The behaviour of Cllr John Baldwin (Lib Dem: Belmont) will be probed internally by the Liberal Democrats and by the Royal Borough.

This followed a “wholly inappropriate outburst” directed at a council officer on a Teams call, Liberal Democrat leader Simon Werner (Pinkneys Green) said in a statement.

Both agreed that Cllr Baldwin will no longer sit as a member of the Maidenhead development management panel, place overview and scrutiny, and licensing panel. However, he will still sit and vote at full council.

In a statement, Cllr Werner said: “Following a wholly inappropriate outburst directed at a council officer on a Teams call, John and I have agreed that I will remove him from his positions on council committees for the time being.

“John has recently changed his coronary prescriptions and this has had a severe effect on his sleep patterns, which in turn has affected his general wellbeing.

“He will be taking some time to regain his equilibrium. We have reported his behaviour through the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s code of conduct as well as internal Liberal Democrat party procedures.

“However, he will be under my direct supervision until the outcomes of the two inquiries are known.”

Cllr Baldwin did not wish to comment.
