A WOMAN from High Wycombe said she feels “Honoured” to have played a part in this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Asa Marshal, who has just moved from Farnham Common to High Wycombe, volunteered in the opening and closing ceremony of the major event in Birmingham.

Having previously performed at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics 2012 in London, Miss Marshal said it was an “incredible experience” to be a placard bearer representing Scotland in this large scale multi-sport event.

Miss Marshal, who is living with cerebral palsy, said it’s been “one hell of a journey”.

“It was incredible to be part of such a massive event,” she said.

“It was like a mix of emotions, but it was the best few months of my life, I met some amazing people, and to be a part of this global event has blown my mind.”

Slough Observer:

Although Miss Marshal said there were too many special moments to choose from, she said walking onto the stage in front of 35,000 people was a particular highlight.

She said: “Just being up on that stage for both the opening and closing ceremony was the best moment.

“The Royal Family was there along with so many massive athletes and artists and I was just in awe.

“But I also loved partying with the athletes until 4am after the closing ceremony, that was definitely another highlight.”
