TRAVELODGE in Slough town centre wants to remove cladding that poses a ‘fire risk’.

The hotel chain has asked Slough Borough Council for planning permission to get rid of the Kingspan aluminium composite material (ACM) with alternatives.

According to the planning statement, the ACM appears on the four elevations of the hotel, which is located on Herschel Street, and needs to be replaced due to its ‘filler material and fixing to the building having regard to fire risk’.

Travelodge has proposed to replace the ACM with render as replacement cladding is ‘not practical’ as it will make the building ‘larger’ as the panels are ‘fatter’ and ‘not ideal’.

The hotel chain said render is easier and has better thermal insulation. The render will be finished in light grey as per the colour and will contrast with the existing render on the building that is either blue, cream or off-white.

Within the planning statement, it reads: “The proposed change of materials is consistent with the existing building, will not significantly alter its appearance, and will respect the character and appearance of the building, surroundings and townscape.”

The proposals do alter the access arrangements to the building at all.
