WINDSOR’S long-serving MP is to stand down at the next general election.

The Windsor Conservatives have announced Adam Afriyie, who has represented the town since 2005, will not be standing at the next general election.

Lars Swann, the Chairman of the Windsor Conservatives Association (WCA), said: “Since Adam was elected to Parliament in May 2005, he has unfailingly helped all those who live in the Windsor constituency area, both the residents and businesses. He has supported many charities and campaigns in his time as our MP and will be missed by many.”

Mr Afriyie, who also represents Ascot and Colnbrook, will continue to serve as the MP until the next general election. The WCA will commence a selection for a new candidate in the autumn.

Adam has been predominantly a backbench MP. In 2016 he was appointed to be a Trade Envoy to Ghana, with a mission to build a better relationship and secure deals with the country.

He stood down last year as the UK-Ghana Brexit bilateral trade deal was secured.

Mr Afriyie has also been facing bankruptcy after a petition from HMRC was filed against him in November 2021. He said at the time: “I will of course pay any tax that is due.”
