HUNDREDS of residents have highlighted various road problems on the A308 as part of a study.

Between September and October 2020, a public consultation was held to gather feedback on the traffic impacts on the A308, which stretches from the Bisham roundabout to the M25.

Within the A308 corridor study, it states over 700 residents took part where 263 were concerned about road safety, 155 about cycling issues, 131 about traffic problems, and 65 were concerned about walking.

The highest number of comments was on speeding between Water Oakley and Clewer East, followed by the need for a pedestrian crossing and turning difficulties within that stretch of the A308.

Slough Observer:

People were also concerned with the future housing sites in Water Oakley, such as the 450 homes site on land north and south of the A308 by Oakley Green Road.

Other worries include a cycle path needed in the Runneymede part, turning difficulties in Old Windsor, and speeding concerns from Bisham to Pinkneys Green.

According to collision data, nearly 200 vehicle accidents were recorded from 2014 to 2019. Four were fatal, 26 were serious, and 169 resulted in slight injury. A majority was car on car but 45 per cent involved pedestrians or cyclists.

Collisions spiked in 2015 but have declined from 2019.

Air quality in areas along the A308, such as Old Windsor, are at or just below the maximum acceptable level of pollution.

The council adopted the borough local plan in February, which earmarks multiple sites to build at least 14,240 homes to meet its future population and economic growth.

The report states this will add pressure on the key transport link and cause congestion. However, it identified 42 sites the council could look into to mitigate this.

Some of these include replacing the mini-roundabout near Mill Lane with a signal-controlled junction, upgrading cycle facilities on Braywick Road, and widening and convert the existing short section of footway between Ray Avenue and Vale Road to shared use.

The council said it is investigating 21 sites in Maidenhead and West, Bray, Windsor and Dedworth, and Southeast Windsor and Old Windsor.

A consultation is being held until July 31 to gather views on options to improve the A308. Visit www.rbwm.gov.uk/consultations to take part.
